Amelia es licenciada en Física por la Universidad de Oviedo y doctora en Física de Materiales por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (2004). Amelia ha trabajado en el campo de la transferencia de tecnología como Analista Tecnológico en la London Technology Network y en la Fundación madri+d. Posteriormente ha sido responsable de gestión de I+D en Socinser, pyme asturiana del sector biomédico.
Es consultora especializada en el Programa Marco Europeo de financiación del I+D. Desde 2013, es también cofundadora de Wetech, empresa que desarrolla accesorios de moda que integran tecnología.
